New media category at the Emmys

This just in from the LA Times:

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced original content produced for computers, mobile phones, BlackBerry devices and other new platforms will be eligible for Emmy awards for the first time. The New York-based group's new Outstanding Achievement in Content for Non-Traditional Delivery Platforms award will be given out with its traditional TV awards during ABC's Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on April 28.

Sounds like the Academy is trying to subsume internet/mobile video as TV.
